A police sergeant that leaped to the aid of a colleague who was ambushed by a blade-wielder received the Royal Recognition for Bravery.

Sergeant Tim Ansell grappled with 27-year-old Jacob Brown after he placed a knife to the neck of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the policemen and their third officer, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist following a road collision in the area in mid-2023.

Brown stabbed and slashed the two Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft stopped him with a electric weapon.

"Policeman stabbed," the officer stated over his communication device.

Bodyworn and dashcam recording shared by the police department showed Brown, who was dressed in black with a hood covering head, run up to Sgt Foster from the rear with a knife pointed forward.

He collided with the officer who lost balance and fell to the street, after which Sgt Ansell intervened and tried to wrestle him to the ground although being continually attacked with the weapon.

PC Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and awaited a clear shot, ending the confrontation to an conclusion.

Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "Can I get something on my neck now, I got knifed in the neck."

Sergeant Ansell suffered multiple lacerations to his neck and more cuts to his limbs and torso, whereas Sgt Foster received knife wounds.

Authorities reported Sgt Foster used his bare hands to stop his fellow officer's blood loss prior to emergency responders came.

This most recent honor follows subsequent to the three officers won internal Courage Honors in fall 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the regional union branch in April 2024.

They additionally received a Regional Courage Honor in mid-2024.
