Edwards and Gary O'Neil represent the initial names under consideration to replace Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was dismissed on the weekend after the team's 10-match winless beginning to the Premier League season.

And Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have previous links to the club - are part of the names to be considered by the club leadership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would pose a potential obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

However the ex- Luton Town head coach - who played over a century of games for the club during his playing career - is said to be a strong contender for the position.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the club board as they start the search of appointing a new head coach.

O'Neil is additionally appearing as a surprise contender, even though he would be a shock choice considering he was sacked by Wolves in the previous winter.

The former West Ham United midfielder is currently unemployed which means the club would not be required to pay any buyout fee.
